Description of the Room
Sala del Capitano is located on the first floor of Palazzo San Giorgio, and is part of the Medieval building. The main chromatic element in the floor and the high wainscoting is the multicoloured ceramics (laggioni) that replicate ancient Genoese motifs. Black and white bands surround quadrifore windows, and green foliage painted around them accentuates their severity. The ceiling is in decorated wood, with repeating rafters, and statues depicting some of Banco di San Giorgio’s protectors are placed on the walls.
This evocative setting’s furnishings are complete with a grand table built on site in the years prior to the Second World War, for the Port Committee’s meetings.
Also available to the room is the nearby Atrium, an area with some tables, which can be used to register guests or to offer a welcome coffee.
